End of an era

Sunday, May 18th, 2014

Looks like the end of the road for my formerly-trusty old D90… The repair shop refuses to repair it, and it probably doesn’t make sense to take it elsewhere. Pretty miffed about their attitude, but what can you do?

So I’m on the market for a replacement, and I shortlisted the Nikon D610 and the new Fujitsu X-T1. (Incidentally, I just got a Sony Xperia Z2 phone, and its camera is amazing for everyday use.)

Bumps on the road make it more interesting I guess… ๐Ÿ™‚

three continents, and an announcement

Monday, May 5th, 2014

Well it’s official, I’ll be setting foot on three continents this year. After India earlier in March, and a short hop to Romania at the end of May (not counting an even shorter hop to France to visit the family), I’ll be traveling to the US East Coast and Canada on my third American Road Trip™…
I was planning to renew my hardware a bit but it’s now unlikely to happen, and I sent my trusty D90 to the shop for a complete revision.

I’m about almost halfway through the India faux-blog and photo-processing and I expect to have it ready within the next few weeks, schedule allowing.

Last but not least, Freylia Studio has cleared the launchpad as a full-blown photography and multilingual design shop, after nearly two years of a slow maturation. I feel it’s now time to make it official and as such, I’m working on a slight redesign to formally reflect this new identity, that should be ready in a few days.

What a journey since the early days of August 2003… Here’s to a brilliant future!

To be continued.

the Double Sunrise Cats

Thursday, July 11th, 2013

July 2013 marks the 70th Anniversary of the inaugural Double Sunrise Flights across the Indian Ocean from Perth, Australia to Koggala in southern Ceylon (Sri Lanka). RAAF PBY Catalina flying boats manned by Qantas crews flew the 3500 Naut. Miles (5652 Km) in a time ranging from 27 to 32 hours thus seeing the sunrise twice. Personnel carried on these long range flights were thus awarded a certificate called the “Secret Order of the Double Sunrise”

At near maximum take-off weight and carrying 1988 gallons (7525 litres) of fuel the Catalinas carried VIPs and important documents to break the Japanese blockade to the North of Australia and maintain contact with British and Allied forces in India and the rest of the world.

A documentary has been produced called “Double Sunrise Flights” directed & produced by Daniel Bunker:

In a move to unify the content on this website, I’ve decided to consolidate Stolen Moments and Souvenirs d’Everywhere into a single blog, so there might be some funky business link-wise in the next few days while this is being processed.
The db have been merged and from now on, all photo posted on Souvenirs d’Everywhere are posted here as well, as this becomes the sole active blog at The original Souvenirs d’Everywhere URL will be deactivated by friday.

Concerts & other hijinks

Sunday, April 7th, 2013 has been updated with a brand new, dedicated “concerts” section, featuring M83, the Kooks and the Walkers. More to come soon with Primavera Sound on the horizon!

The other sections have also been given their share of updates, so check them out as well. G-PBYA is the star of the Sea & Air album and Black & White contains some of my current favourite street shots.

As always feel free to comment or email if you’re so inclined. ๐Ÿ™‚

Until next time!

It was time for an update at and I’m happy to say it is now gone live! ๐Ÿ™‚

There is now a new โ€œDesignsโ€ section featuring some aircraft dream projects of mine that were sleeping in my folders. The recent โ€œDuckmeisterโ€ has been moved there and will very likely be joined by more in the future…

The Albums section has also been updated with new photos from 2012 and early 2013, taken in Barcelona as well as Romania, France, and the Czech Republic.
